Two Weeks After Ouster, Former PM K.P. Sharma Oli Makes First Public Appearance

Kathmandu, September 24 (HS): Former Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, who was ousted from power two weeks ago, resurfaced in public on Tuesday, addressing a gathering of supporters and party workers in Bhaktapur.

Oli, who has been residing in a rented house in Bhaktapur since his removal, described the recent arson attack on Singha Durbar—the seat of Nepal’s government—as a conspiracy orchestrated by infiltrators. “Those who love their nation and its history can never set fire to Singha Durbar,” he told his supporters.

Without naming directly, Oli took aim at Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, suggesting that prior threats to burn down Singha Durbar indicated a deliberate plan behind the violence. He also used the occasion to criticize ongoing youth-led protests, remarking that “Nepal has become a disgraced nation” where several countries have stopped issuing visas and halted employment opportunities for Nepali citizens. “We must save the nation from this situation,” Oli urged.
