KAMPALA, Uganda, 13 October (H.S.): A wave of jubilation has swept across Uganda following Jacob Kiplimo’s landmark victory at the 2025 Chicago Marathon on Sunday. Kiplimo made history by becoming the first Ugandan athlete to win a World Marathon Major title with a spectacular performance.
Kiplimo completed the race with an impressive time of 2 hours, 2 minutes, and 23 seconds. He surged ahead of Kenya’s Amos Kipruto, who finished second at 2:03:54, and Alex Masai, who secured third place with a time of 2:04:37.
In a congratulatory message on ‘X’, formerly Twitter, Uganda’s Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, wrote, “Congratulations, Jacob, for flying our country’s flag high in Chicago! Your victory is a source of pride and inspiration for all of Uganda.”
The State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang, also lauded Kiplimo’s achievement. “Kiplimo has once again brought glory to Uganda’s name. We are celebrating this proud moment with him,” he stated.
Kiplimo, the reigning World Cross Country champion, made his marathon debut earlier this year at the London Marathon, where he finished in a respectable second place. The Chicago Marathon is one of the world’s six prestigious World Marathon Majors, with the other races held in Boston, London, Berlin, New York, and Tokyo.
