
Kampala, February 25 (HS): Uganda’s star athlete Stella Chesang will participate in the TCS London Marathon 2025 to be held on April 27. Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) President Dominic Otuchet confirmed this to Xinhua and said that Jacob Kiplimo in the men’s category and Chesang in the women’s category will represent Uganda.
Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) said, We are expecting a great performance from our athletes as they are very experienced runners.
28-year-old Chesang, who won the 10,000 meters gold medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, will face a tough challenge in the London Marathon. She will face veteran athletes like Kenya’s defending champion Peres Jepchirchir and world record holder Ruth Chepngetich.
Apart from this, two-time Berlin Marathon champion Tigist Assefa (Ethiopia) and Olympic marathon winner Sifan Hassan (Netherlands) will also be strong contenders for the title.
Regarding her preparations, Chesang said, I am eagerly waiting for this marathon and working hard, because I know that the competition will be very challenging.
Apart from winning gold in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Chesang had secured 10th position in the World Cross Country Championship. She has represented Uganda in the 2016 Rio Olympics and has also set national records in 10,000 meters and half marathon.
