New York, 08 May (HS): Amid escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan, President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Philemon Yang, has issued a strong statement urging both nations to step back from confrontation and pursue peaceful dialogue.
“I am deeply concerned about the escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan,” Mr. Yang stated, calling for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and for an immediate de-escalation.
Reiterating the UN’s stance against violence, he added, “I condemn all terrorist attacks and attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.”
Emphasizing the importance of diplomacy, Mr. Yang stressed that only dialogue and adherence to international law can pave the way to enduring peace. “I firmly believe that dialogue and diplomatic solutions in line with the UN Charter and international law are the only ways to resolve differences and achieve lasting peace and stability,” he concluded.
The United Nations has not yet announced any emergency session, but sources suggest increased diplomatic efforts are underway to reduce tensions in the region.
