UN Secretary-General Guterres to visit Bangladesh on March 13-16

Dhaka, February 26 (HS): United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has accepted the invitation of Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government Mohammad Yunus. Guterres will make an official visit to Bangladesh from March 13-16. According to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs today, the office of the United Nations Secretary General has confirmed the date.

According to the news of The Daily Star, High Representative of Chief Advisor Yunus Khalilur Rahman met Secretary General Guterres in New York on February 7 and urged him to visit Bangladesh. Along with this, he also handed over the invitation letter of the Chief Advisor. The letter mentioned that Bangladesh is struggling with the Rohingya crisis. The Secretary General should come and see the seriousness of this crisis himself.

Meanwhile, in a letter sent to Mohammad Yunus, Guterres has confirmed the unwavering solidarity of the global body with Bangladesh in the ongoing efforts to manage the humanitarian impact of the Rohingya crisis. In the letter, he has emphasized the continued support of the global community for Bangladesh.

In the letter, Guterres assured Yunus, I would like to reiterate the United Nations’ strong solidarity with Bangladesh and our support for the transition process under your leadership.
