Uncontrolled crowd sets fire to the house of Sheikh Hasina's party leader in Dhaka

Dhaka, 07 February (HS): The flames raging against the family and colleagues of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh do not seem to cool down despite the warning of the interim government. After bulldozing the houses of Hasina’s father Bangabandhu and husband, now the houses of leaders of her party Awami League are being set on fire. The uncontrolled crowd set fire to the house of Sheikh Selim, a member of the Awami League Presidium, in Banani, the capital Dhaka, at 1.30 am.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, due to lack of police protection, fire brigade personnel did not reach the spot until 2:45 am. During this time the house remained engulfed in flames.

Earlier on Wednesday night, thousands of students and protesters vandalized and set fire to the residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman located at Dhanmondi-32. The attackers bulldozed the building. Homes and offices of other Awami League leaders have been targeted across the country. Meanwhile, in a statement on Thursday midnight, the interim government warned that any attempt to destabilize the country through vandalism and arson would not be tolerated. The interim government assured that it would protect the life and property of its citizens at all costs.
