
New Delhi, May 20 (H.S.): Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a high-level review meeting on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in New Delhi. This meeting reviewed the operational and administrative functions of the SSB, its achievements, and future strategies.
Detailed discussions were held on the accomplishments and future plans of the SSB, and necessary guidelines were provided. The Director General of the SSB reported that over the past four years, the force has arrested 184 foreign nationals attempting to illegally cross into India, and 27 militants have been taken down.
During the meeting, SSB Director General Amrit Mohan Prasad provided information about the organization’s current structure, border deployment, operational achievements, technological advancements, and future challenges. He particularly highlighted the SSB’s effective presence along the India-Nepal and India-Bhutan borders, as well as the force’s active role in areas affected by Naxalism and in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sharing the SSB’s achievements, Prasad mentioned that from 2020 to 2025, the SSB has arrested 184 foreign citizens for illegally crossing the border. During the same period, 2156 victims were rescued from 1250 human trafficking cases, and 1094 traffickers were apprehended. The SSB compelled 426 militants in Naxal and terrorism-affected areas to surrender or be arrested, and 27 militants were neutralized in encounters.
Prasad stated that various welfare schemes are being implemented by the SSB to enhance civilian participation in border areas, which include medical camps, veterinary services, skill development programs, and women’s empowerment initiatives. Additionally, issues such as the ‘Anti-Obesity Drive’ for the health promotion of force personnel and encouragement of the use of millets were discussed during the meeting. Under notable improvements in residential facilities, housing satisfaction rose from 20.40% in 2020-21 to 31.95% by 2024-25.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs present at the meeting included Dr. Rajendra Kumar, Secretary (BM), Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, Additional Secretary (P-II), Sanjeev Kumar Jindal, Additional Secretary (PM), Pausumi Basu, Joint Secretary (BM), Juhi Verma, Director, Deepak Kumar, Director (PF), and Shashank Mani Tripathi, (OSD).
