(Update) Earthquake of 6.1 magnitude strikes Nepal

Kathmandu, 28 February (HS): Strong tremors of the earthquake that struck Sindhupalchok district in Nepal at 2:51 am local time this morning were felt in Kathmandu and eastern Nepal. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 6.1 magnitude on the Richter scale. So far there is no report of any kind of human loss. Mukund Bhattarai, in-charge of Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, gave this information.

According to Mukund Bhattarai, in-charge of the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was Bhairavkund in Sindhupalchok district. Its impact was felt in eastern and central Nepal including the capital Kathmandu. When contacted over the telephone, Sindhupalchok District Magistrate Kiran Thapa said that so far there has been no report of any kind of human loss due to the earthquake. There has been some physical damage but it is very normal.

Meanwhile, Sindhupalchowk police informed that 33-year-old Syangbo Tamang, a prisoner in the district jail, was injured while trying to escape by jumping from the second floor taking advantage of the earthquake.

A land slide has been reported in Bhotekoshi of the district. No damage has been caused by this landslide, which happened far from human settlements. District Magistrate Thapa said that the police has been alerted in the entire district. The district administration is ready to deal with any situation. Meanwhile, there is also information about aftershocks after the earthquake. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, after the earthquake that occurred at 2:51 am, there have been 23 aftershocks till 8 am.
