In his post Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah said, “No mercy for drug cartels. Accelerating the Modi govt’s march to build a drug-free Bharat, a massive consignment of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹88 crore is seized, and 4 members of the international drug cartel are arrested in Imphal and Guwahati zones. The drug haul is a testament to the stellar performance of the bottom-to-top and top-to-bottom approach to investigation. Our hunt for drugs continues. Heartfelt congratulations to team NCB.”
Details of operations:
On 13.03.2025, NCB Imphal Zone officers intercepted a truck in the Lilong area and discovered 102.39 kg of Methamphetamine tablets hidden in the vehicle’s toolbox. Two occupants were arrested, and a follow-up operation resulted in the capture of a suspected receiver along with a drug trafficking vehicle. The contraband’s suspected source is Moreh, and investigations are ongoing to identify other involved parties.
In a separate operation on the same day, NCB Guwahati Zone intercepted an SUV at the Assam-Mizoram border near Silchar, recovering 7.48 kg of Methamphetamine concealed in a spare tire. The occupant was arrested, with the drugs traced back to Moreh, Manipur, and the suspected destination being Karimganj. Further investigations are also underway to investigate additional suspects.
Additionally, NCB has taken over an investigation from the Mizoram State Excise Department involving the seizure of approximately 46 kg of crystal Meth in Aizawl on March 6, with four individuals arrested in connection to the drug syndicate.
The North Eastern Region of India has become increasingly susceptible to drug trafficking due to its geographic location, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs to enhance NCB’s resources in 2023 to combat this challenge. NCB is actively working against synthetic drug trafficking, particularly Methamphetamine, which poses significant risks to youth and national security.
