
Los Angeles, February 13 (HS). A US Navy jet crashed into San Diego Harbor on Wednesday. Both the pilots of the jet have been rescued. The Los Angeles Times newspaper reported that the jet (E/A-18G Growler) crash was confirmed by Navy officials.
According to Navy officials, both the pilots were first safely evacuated from the water and transferred to a US Customs and Security boat. After this, both were taken to Hillcrest Medical Center of UC San Diego Health. Both are said to be in stable condition there.
According to emergency workers, the accident took place around 10 am in the 1500 block of Shelter Island Drive. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department personnel reached the spot in less than 10 minutes. The Navy said that by evening the jet was submerged in water. A containment boom was installed to reduce the spread of fuel and debris. Naval Base Coronado has set up an emergency operations center and started an investigation.
