US to Host 2026 G-20 Summit at Trump’s Florida Golf Resort

Washington DC, Sept 6 (HS): The United States will host the 2026 Group of Twenty (G-20) leaders’ summit at former President Donald J. Trump’s golf resort and spa in Doral, Florida. Trump announced the decision on Friday from the Oval Office, confirming that world leaders will gather in Miami for the high-profile economic forum on December 14-15, 2026.

According to CBS News, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett has been tasked with overseeing summit preparations, while Treasury Secretary Scott Besent is drafting the agenda. In an official statement, the White House emphasized that Trump will host the event “at cost,” without seeking financial benefit from the State Department or foreign governments.

Trump had previously proposed holding the 2020 G-7 summit at the same resort but dropped the plan amid fierce criticism, before the pandemic forced the meeting to move online. Trump purchased the Doral resort in 2012 for $150 million.

The sprawling property, which first opened in the 1960s, includes four golf courses, a 48,000-square-foot spa, a massive pool with a 125-foot water slide, and a 24,000-square-foot ballroom. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez was present in the Oval Office when Trump shared his announcement.

The G-20 is the world’s largest economic forum, comprising 19 leading economies plus the European Union and the African Union. Collectively, its members account for nearly 85% of global GDP and more than 75% of world trade. Unlike the G-7, the G-20 is more geographically diverse, encompassing both advanced and emerging economies. The 2025 G-20 summit will be held in South Africa later this year.

In addition, Trump extended a formal invitation to Poland’s newly elected President Karol Nawrocki to attend the Miami gathering. According to a senior administration official, the U.S. intends to “reset the G-20 to its fundamentals,” streamlining the summit’s format and focusing strictly on economic growth and financial stability. The official added that the guest list is likely to be smaller than in recent years.
