
New Delhi, September 4 (H.S.) : Indian cricket’s seasoned leg spinner Amit Mishra announced his retirement from professional cricket on Thursday, concluding a remarkable career spanning nearly 25 years. Mishra attributed his decision to recurring injuries and a desire to pave the way for younger talent.
Throughout his career, Amit Mishra mesmerized batsmen with his crafty leg-spin in Tests, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and T20 matches. He also enjoyed considerable success in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he is counted among the top bowlers and holds the unique record of claiming three hat-tricks for different franchises.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Mishra said, These 25 years in cricket have been unforgettable. I thank the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, support staff, teammates, my family, and especially my fans whose unwavering support made this journey memorable. Cricket has gifted me countless memories and invaluable lessons which I will cherish forever.
Post retirement, Mishra signaled his intention to remain connected to the sport through coaching, commentary, and mentoring young players. He also plans to stay active on social media and his YouTube channel to engage with fans. His legacy transcends statistics, as his experience and insights promise to be a treasured heritage for future generations of cricketers.
Mishra’s career highlights include his Test debut in 2008 where he took a five-wicket haul, solid performances in limited-overs cricket, and prolific IPL contributions with 174 wickets in 162 matches. His dedication, discipline, and passion have inspired countless aspiring cricketers across India.
