Weekly stock review: Market closes down after fluctuations

New Delhi, March 16 (HS): During the trading week from Monday to Thursday, the domestic stock market experienced a decline influenced by global pressures, leading to a weekly drop. While strong industrial production and retail inflation data offered some relief, the overall market weakness persisted.

The BSE Sensex decreased by 503.67 points (0.67%) to close at 73,898.91 points, while the Nifty fell by 155.30 points (0.68%) to 22,397.20 points. The BSE Large-cap Index recorded a 0.80% decline, with notable drops from Zomato, Wipro, and Infosys, although Sun Pharmaceutical and JSW Energy gained.

The BSE Midcap Index fell by 2%, with significant losses from Relaxo Footwears and AU Small Finance Bank, while gains were seen in Tube Investments of India. The BSE Small Cap Index suffered the most, with a 5% drop, affecting stocks like KR Rail Engineering. All sectoral indices ended in the red, with the Nifty IT index down 4.5% and the Nifty Media Index down 3.4%, while the Nifty PSU Bank, Automobile, and Realty indices each fell by 2%.
