Kolkata, 8 May (H.S.): In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the West Bengal government has cancelled all leave for state government employees. The decision, directed from the state secretariat ‘Nabanna’, comes as a part of emergency preparedness under the national military initiative ‘Operation Sindoor’.
According to official sources, this preventive measure is aimed at ensuring full administrative readiness in the event of a national emergency. Departments across the state have been directed to remain on high alert, with instructions that all government personnel must report to their workplaces without exception. This move is intended to facilitate prompt action should the situation demand it.
The directive follows reports of heightened military activity along the India-Pakistan border. Under ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Indian Army is said to have successfully intercepted incoming drone and missile threats from Pakistan, and in a retaliatory strike, reportedly dismantled Pakistan’s air defense system in Lahore. These developments have triggered enhanced security protocols nationwide, with several key cities and airbases placed on high alert.
As a direct consequence, more than 400 domestic flights have been cancelled across the country, and 27 airports have been temporarily shut down. The United States has also issued an advisory urging its citizens residing in Pakistan to exercise heightened caution.
Experts have underlined the critical role of an active administrative framework during times of crisis. Accordingly, the West Bengal government has emphasized the need for uninterrupted availability of all state personnel to ensure smooth coordination of services and crisis response.
A senior official from Nabanna stated that the situation is being closely monitored and further instructions will be issued as necessary. Citizens have been urged to avoid spreading or believing in rumors and to rely solely on verified information from official sources.
