
Bengaluru, 11 March (H.S.): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar told the Legislative Assembly today that a plan would be chalked out to utilise the 27 TMC of Tungabhadra water after a discussion with Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Replying to Congress MLA Basanagouda Daddal who raised the issue of inadequate water flow to tail end of the Tungabhadra left bank canal, he said, “The state is losing 27 TMC of water due to silting of Tungabhadra dam. There is a plan to build a parallel dam at Navali in order utilize that water. There is also an alternative proposal which has come before the Tungabhadra Board and I have discussed the same with Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. We will make an action plan to implement that proposal after discussions with the two states.”
MLA Allamaprabhu Patil drew the attention of the DCM to conduct a survey to validate claims of the officials that 58,663 hectares have been irrigated with irrigation projects in Bhima river basin. Replying to him, the DCM said, “Bennethore and other irrigation projects irrigate these areas. The MLA has asked for a survey, will take necessary action after consulting the officials concerned.”
