Women journalists honored in NUJ(I) National Convention

Haridwar, March 09 (HS): National President of NUJ(I), Ras Bihari, affirmed support for small and medium newspaper owners, stating many face closure due to government policies. NUJ(I) is committed to their fight.

The National Convention of International Federation of Journalists affiliated to National Union of Journalists (India) commenced at Prem Nagar Ashram in Haridwar on Saturday. The National Program Committee was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by NUJ(I) National President Ras Bihari, General Secretary Pradeep Tiwari and other members.

On the same time, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, women journalists associated with the organization were honored by presenting shawls and souvenirs. More than 200 representatives from 22 states participated in the convention.

The convention was organised in coordination with the state president of the organisation Sunil Dutt Pandey and district president Adesh Tyagi and was conducted by the convener Dharmendra Chaudhary.

On the first day of the two-day convention, participants addressed various demands, including the Journalist Protection Act, Restoration of Working Journalist Act, Formation of Media Council, formation of Media Commission, National Registrar for Journalists, financial assistance to small and medium newspapers, Rules for digital media, formation of accreditation committees in all states, opposition to retrenchment of employees in media institutions, fair salaries, fixed working hours, pension to journalists, health insurance for journalists across the country, bus travel facility in all states, restoration of 50% travel concessions in Railways.
