
Delhi, 14 October (H.S.): World Athletics on Monday unveiled the shortlists for the Women’s Track Athlete of the Year and Men’s Track Athlete of the Year at the World Athletics Awards 2025, featuring five nominees in each category. The lists reflect standout performances from the 2025 season, highlighted by the World Athletics Championships.
Women’s Track Nominees
Femke Bol (Netherlands) — World and Diamond League 400m hurdles champion; unbeaten over 400m hurdles all season with the year’s top three marks.
Beatrice Chebet (Kenya) — World 5000m and 10,000m champion; set the world 5000m record.
Melissa Jefferson (USA) — World champion in 100m, 200m and 4x100m; unbeaten over 100m with the year’s top five times.
Faith Kipyegon (Kenya) — World 1500m champion and 5000m silver medallist; set the world 1500m record.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (USA) — World 400m and 4x400m champion; unbeaten in 400m and 400m hurdles, with the second-fastest 400m time in history.
Men’s Track Nominees
Rai Benjamin (USA) — World 400m hurdles champion; produced two of the year’s top three performances.
Jimmy Gressier (France) — World 10,000m champion and 5000m bronze medallist; Diamond League 3000m champion.
Noah Lyles (USA) — World 200m and 4x100m champion; 100m bronze; unbeaten over 200m all season.
Cordell Tinch (USA) — World and Diamond League 110m hurdles champion.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi (Kenya) — World and Diamond League 800m champion.
Voting and Next Steps
Fan voting to select two finalists in each track category is live on World Athletics’ social platforms (Facebook, Instagram and X) and closes on October 19.
Nominations for Field Athlete of the Year will be announced on October 20, and for Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year on October 27.The World Athlete of the Year (men and women) will be chosen from the winners of these three discipline categories.
