New Delhi, May 31 (HS): World Boxing announced on Friday that it will implement mandatory gender testing for male and female athletes participating in all its tournaments. The decision by the International Boxing Federation came after a controversy that arose last year involving some athletes, including Algeria’s female gold medalist Imane Khalif, during the Paris Olympics. World Boxing stated that it has informed the Algerian Boxing Federation that if Imane Khalif wishes to participate in the Eindhoven Boxing Cup taking place in the Netherlands from June 5 to 10, she must first undergo gender testing.
In its statement, World Boxing said, World Boxing has informed the Algerian Boxing Federation in a letter that Iman Khalif will not be permitted to participate in the women’s category of the Eindhoven Boxing Cup or any World Boxing event until she undergoes gender testing.
World Boxing will host boxing competitions at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
