Washington, 17 October (H.S.): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington on Thursday for a crucial meeting with President Donald Trump, where he will advocate for the supply of U.S. long-range Tomahawk missiles.

Zelenskyy asserts that the potential delivery of these advanced weapons, capable of reaching Moscow, is already pressuring Russia to re-engage in dialogue.

In a statement upon his arrival, Zelenskyy expressed hope that the momentum of curbing terror and war that succeeded in the Middle East will help to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. He argued that employing the language of strength and justice will inevitably work against Russia.

In addition to his meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy is scheduled to hold talks with U.S. defense companies to discuss acquiring more air defense systems.The visit occurs at a pivotal moment in the nearly four-year-long conflict. It follows a surprise phone call between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which they agreed to hold a new summit in Budapest.

Diplomatic efforts have been stagnant since their last meeting in Alaska in August failed to produce a breakthrough. Meanwhile, Ukraine is facing nationwide rolling power cuts for the second consecutive day due to intensified Russian strikes on its energy and railway infrastructure .
