
Toronto, July 30 (H.S.): In the Canadian Open 2025 (ATP Toronto Masters), top seed Alexander Zverev made a significant comeback after a month away from competition, defeating Adam Walton 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 to reach the third round. Following an early exit at Wimbledon and a break for mental recovery, Zverev trained at Rafael Nadal’s academy in Mallorca during his hiatus.
The match featured a dramatic first set tiebreak where Zverev rallied from 1-4 down, ultimately achieving his 499th career win. Post-match, he emphasized the importance of winning, despite the match’s quality. Zverev’s next opponent will be Matteo Arnaldi, who won against Tristan Schoolkate 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Other notable results included third seed Lorenzo Musetti who beat James Duckworth 7-5, 6-1, and fifth seed Holger Rune defeating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (9/7), 6-3.
