Washington, August 11 (HS): US President Donald Trump on Sunday voiced hope that China would swiftly quadruple its purchases of American soybeans, portraying the move as both a remedy for Beijing’s domestic shortage and a means of narrowing its trade deficit with Washington.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump lauded US farmers for producing “the most robust soybeans” and pledged “rapid service” to meet the potential surge in demand. He also extended thanks to Chinese President Xi Jinping for considering the proposal.
The appeal comes against the backdrop of lingering trade frictions between the world’s two largest economies, with soybeans remaining a pivotal commodity in the bilateral economic relationship. By pushing for a dramatic escalation in agricultural exports, Trump signalled a dual objective — bolstering America’s farm sector while addressing long‑standing concerns over trade imbalances.
