Delhi, 23 October (H.S.): Indian shooting legend and Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra has been selected as a torchbearer for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The prestigious event is scheduled to take place from February 6-22, 2026, in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Bindra, who famously won India’s first individual Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games, shared his excitement on social media on Thursday.
Truly humbled to be chosen as a torchbearer for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Torch Relay, Bindra wrote.
The Olympic flame has always held a special place in my heart—it is a symbol of dreams, perseverance, and the unity of the world through sport. To carry it again is both an honor and an inspiration. Thank you, Milano Cortina 2026, for this incredible honor.
The 2026 Games will mark the fourth time that Italy has hosted the Winter Olympics. The upcoming edition is slated to be larger than its predecessor, featuring a total of 116 medal events across 16 disciplines. This represents an increase of seven events and one new discipline compared to the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.
