
VIENNA, 24 October (H.S.): Top-seeded Italian Jannik Sinner secured his place in the quarterfinals of the Vienna Open after a hard-fought victory against his compatriot Flavio Cobolli on Thursday. The four-time Grand Slam champion overcame a tough second-set challenge to win the match 6-2, 7-6(4).Sinner displayed a commanding performance in the first set, easily winning it 6-2 without facing a single break point.
The second set proved to be a tighter contest, as Cobolli raised his level and forced a tie-break. Despite missing four break opportunities in the set, Sinner maintained his composure to win the tie-break and seal the match. This tournament marks Sinner’s return after withdrawing from the Shanghai Masters due to fatigue.
Flavio is a fantastic talent and a great competitor. We played some excellent rallies, Sinner commented after the match. I had chances in the second set but couldn’t capitalize, but that’s tennis. I maintained a positive mindset and I’m happy with my performance today.
In the quarterfinals, Sinner will face eighth seed Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan, who advanced by defeating Francisco Cerúndolo 6-4, 6-2.Other notable results from the tournament include:Second seed Alexander Zverev progressed to the final eight, where he is scheduled to play against Tallon Griekspoor.
