SINGAPORE, 25 October (H.S.): A 34-year-old Indian national formerly employed as a staff nurse at the prestigious Raffles Hospital was sentenced to one year and two months in jail and two strokes of the cane for molestation. The Singapore State Courts delivered the verdict on Friday against Elipe Shiva Nagu.

According to a report in The Straits Times, Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua detailed the incident during the proceedings. The case was filed on June 21, leading to Nagu’s arrest two days later. The crime occurred on June 18, when the victim was visiting his grandfather, a patient at the hospital.

The court heard that at approximately 7:30 PM, the victim went to a toilet, where Nagu peered inside. Under the pretense of disinfecting the victim’s hands, Nagu applied soap and then proceeded to molest him. Following the incident, the hospital immediately suspended Nagu.

The shocked victim left the toilet and recounted the ordeal to his grandfather, which led to the matter being reported to hospital management. In its ruling, the court has redacted the victim’s personal details to protect his identity.
