Trump Open to Third Term, Rules Out Vice-Presidential Maneuver

US President Donald Trump

WASHINGTON, 28 October (H.S.): President Donald Trump on Monday expressed openness to seeking a third term in the White House, stating he would love to do it, but he firmly rejected a constitutional loophole that has been floated by some of his supporters.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while traveling in Asia, the president dismissed the idea of running for vice-president in 2028 as a means to circumvent the U.S. Constitution’s two-term limit. He described the strategy as too cute and said it wouldn’t be right, adding that he believes people wouldn’t like that.

The 22nd Amendment currently bars presidents from serving a third term. The president’s comments come amid speculation about his political future, which was recently fueled by former adviser Steve Bannon, who claimed a plan was in place to secure a third term for the 79-year-old.

During his discussion with reporters, President Trump also highlighted Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential unstoppable successors.
