Law University can be established anywhere, will benefit entire J&K: Sakina Itoo

KINS Desk
Srinagar, Jan 15 (KINS): Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo on Thursday said that the proposed Law University can be established anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir, but its benefits will accrue to people across all regions of the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters, Itoo said the National Conference (NC) government believes in equal opportunities for children from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
“For the NC government, children of all regions—including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh—are equal. The Law University can be established anywhere, whether in Baramulla, Anantnag or Budgam, but its beneficiaries will be students from across Jammu and Kashmir,” she said, according to the news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
Responding to a question about protests by some groups in Jammu demanding that the Law University be established only there, the minister said certain elements were trying to create divisions within the Union Territory.
“There are some people who want to divide the UT. People are free to make their demands. They can even demand that two universities be established—one in Kashmir and another in Jammu,” she added.
The minister’s remarks come days after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah questioned why there were no protests when premier institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) were established in Jammu and not in Kashmir. (KINS)
