London/New Delhi, May 8 (HS): In view of the increasing military tension along the India-Pakistan border, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advisory on Wednesday. It has advised British citizens to strictly avoid any travel within a 10-kilometer radius of the India-Pakistan international border.
The latest advisory specifically prohibits travel to sensitive areas in Jammu-Kashmir, such as Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, the city of Srinagar, and the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. In addition, a complete ban on travel to any area within 10 miles (approximately 16 kilometers) of the Line of Control (LoC) has been recommended.
The British government has taken this step following India’s recent ‘Operation Sindoor,’ in which the Indian Air Force conducted precise strikes on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Tensions between the two countries have escalated since this military action.
The UK Foreign Office stated, The current security situation in the region remains highly sensitive. We prioritize the safety of our citizens and urge them to avoid unnecessary travel.
Singapore Also Issues Travel Advisory
The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly advised its citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Jammu-Kashmir in India and Pakistan. The ministry specifically mentioned that the situation in the India-Pakistan border areas is unstable and sensitive, urging Singaporean citizens traveling there to exercise extreme caution.
Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has also appealed to tourists to follow official guidelines and obtain information from local authorities or embassies prior to any travel.
