Chase, Greaves Steer West Indies to Series-Levelling Win in Rain-Hit ODI

West Indies Keep Series Alive with Gritty Win Over Pakistan

Tarouba, Trinidad & Tobago, August 11(HS): Roston Chase and Justin Greaves held their nerve in a tense finish as West Indies overhauled Pakistan to clinch a five-wicket victory in the rain-curtailed second ODI on Sunday, squaring the three-match series 1-1 and setting up a mouth-watering decider.

Chasing a revised target of 181 in 35 overs under the DLS method after multiple rain delays, the hosts wobbled from a comfortable 101-3 to 111-5, but Chase’s unbeaten 49 off 47 balls—laced with two towering sixes and a crisp winning boundary—anchored the West Indies to 184-5 with 10 balls to spare.

Sherfane Rutherford had earlier set the tone with an explosive 45 off 33 deliveries, striking three sixes and four boundaries, before falling at a critical juncture. Greaves (26* off 31) then joined Chase in a composed 77-run unbroken stand for the sixth wicket to see the Caribbean side home.

Earlier, West Indies’ decision to bowl first paid dividends as Jayden Seales (3-23) produced a fiery spell to restrict Pakistan to 171-7 in 37 overs. Hasan Nawaz again proved a thorn in their side, smashing 36 not out off 30 balls, including two late sixes in the rain-shortened final over. Hussain Talat chipped in with 31, while skipper Mohammad Rizwan laboured to 16 off 38 before falling lbw to Gudakesh Motie.

Pakistan had drawn first blood in the series with a five-wicket win in Friday’s opener, but this spirited response by the hosts leaves the contest finely poised ahead of Tuesday’s series finale at the Brian Lara Stadium.

With momentum shifting, the decider promises a high-stakes showdown between two sides unwilling to blink.
