New Delhi, April 23 (HS): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has directed the digitalization of the Delhi Assembly library, transforming it into an e-library. This decision was made during a meeting with Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta at the Parliament Secretariat, focusing on enhancing cooperation in preserving Delhi’s legislative heritage.
The discussion aimed to strengthen the Delhi Assembly’s framework, improve infrastructure, and promote digitization and transparency. Gupta highlighted ongoing efforts to establish the Assembly premises as a national heritage site, celebrating Delhi’s democratic legacy while ensuring future accessibility.
Birla emphasized the urgency of initiating the e-library conversion, which will enhance public access to legislative documents and preserve institutional knowledge. He commended the Delhi Assembly’s initiatives and instructed the Parliament Secretariat to support these efforts. Gupta noted that all records and proceedings of the Delhi Assembly Secretariat have been systematically preserved at the historic Town Hall of the Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Recognizing the significance of this archival work, Birla directed that these records be included in the digitization project, emphasizing the importance of preserving India’s legislative history, marking a notable collaboration between central and state legislative bodies for heritage preservation and technological advancement.
