Yavatmal, 25 Apr (HS): Performing a child marriage
on the Akshay Tritiya day will invite stern action. Yavatmal District
Collector Vikas Meena has issued a warning, as a large number of child
marriages are performed on this auspicious day.
The State Government stopped 5,421 child marriages
during the last six years. In 401 cases, offences have been registered. In 2024, the Child Protection Cell of the Women and Child Development Department
prevented 47 child marriages.
Action against all those involved in child
marriages, including the religious heads, pundits, service providers like
pandal, decorators, photographers, caterers, hall or lawn owners, band etc, will
face action by the government. The service providers should ensiure that the
bride has completed the age of 18 and the groom is above 21 years of age.
