GAIL to establish one gigawatt renewable energy projects in Karnataka

Karnataka And GAIL Sign Rs 5,000 Crore Agreement For 1 GW Renewable Energy Project

New Delhi, May 10 (HS): Public sector gas utility company GAIL (India) Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government on Saturday to explore the possibility of establishing renewable energy projects of up to one gigawatt (GW) in the state.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, M.B. Patil, and the state’s Energy Minister, K.J. George, by Dr. S. Selvakumar, Principal Secretary of the Commerce and Industry Department, and GAIL’s Executive Director (SD and Renewable). The company stated that GAIL intends to set up renewable energy projects of up to one gigawatt within a five-year period. Under this MoU, the Karnataka government will provide GAIL with the necessary approvals from the relevant departments in accordance with existing policies.

On this occasion, Minister M.B. Patil welcomed GAIL’s strategic interest in Karnataka and said that this agreement reaffirms our commitment to facilitating clean energy investment while promoting industrial development. Energy Minister K.J. George noted that this partnership will strengthen our state’s position as a green energy hub and contribute to job creation and infrastructure development.
