
Chennai, September 9 (HS): The match schedule for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 was unveiled in a grand ceremony held in Chennai on Monday.
According to the draw, defending champions Germany will kick off their campaign in Madurai with a high-voltage clash against South Africa, while hosts India will begin their journey in Chennai, facing Chile in their opening fixture.
For the first time in history, the Junior World Cup will feature 24 teams, making it the biggest edition so far. The tournament will be held from November 28 to December 10, 2025, across Chennai and Madurai.

Pool C: Argentina, New Zealand, Japan, China
Pool D: Spain, Belgium, Egypt, Namibia
Pool E: Netherlands, Malaysia, England, Austria
Pool F: France, Australia, Korea, Bangladesh
Leaders’ Remarks
FIH President Tayyab Ikram hailed the expansion as a landmark moment: “Hosting a 24-team Junior World Cup for the first time is historic. It gives emerging nations a chance to shine on the global stage. Tamil Nadu, with its rich culture and passion for hockey, will make this tournament unforgettable.”
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said: “It is a proud moment for Tamil Nadu to host the World Cup in Chennai and Madurai. This event will inspire more youngsters to take up hockey.”
Hockey India president Dr. Dilip Tirkey added: “This edition will be a matter of great pride for Indian hockey. The countdown has already begun.”
General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh remarked: “With the announcement of fixtures, excitement among players and fans has doubled. Chennai and Madurai will welcome the world in a festive spirit.”
The launch event was attended by FIH President Tayyab Ikram, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Atulya Misra (IAS), SDAT CEO Thiru J. Meghanatha Reddy (IAS), Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey, Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh, and Treasurer Shekar J. Manoharan.
