
New Delhi- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Finance Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday attended the 57th meeting of the GST Council chaired by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi.
The meeting brought together Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers from across the country, besides senior officials from the Union Ministry of Finance.
The Council held detailed discussions on various GST-related issues, with deliberations focusing on strengthening the fiscal capacity of States and Union Territories, improving revenue mobilisation and promoting balanced fiscal federalism.
Omar Abdullah, who attended the meeting in his capacity as Finance Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed confidence that the decisions taken by the GST Council would help strengthen the Union Territory’s fiscal position.
He said the outcomes of the meeting would support economic growth and contribute to accelerating development and public welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.
The deliberations also focused on measures aimed at improving the overall GST framework and ensuring greater fiscal support for States and Union Territories.
