
Doha, October 7(HS): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday that discussions between India and the United States on the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) are progressing steadily and are likely to conclude by November.
Speaking to the media in Doha during his official visit to Qatar, Goyal noted that the U.S. government is currently in a shutdown mode, which could affect the timing and logistics of negotiations. “We have to see how, where, and when the discussions can take place,” he said.
The minister added that there is significant interest in strengthening partnerships between Indian businesses and Qatari enterprises, reflecting growing economic cooperation between the two countries.Goyal is leading a business delegation to Doha aimed at promoting bilateral trade and investment initiatives.
He said that India and the U.S. continue to engage on the trade deal through ongoing dialogues at multiple levels, and that more details on the way forward will be shared soon.
