05 May (HS): Anandiben Patel, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, stated on Monday that
International Yoga Day has become a worldwide movement rather than a symbolic
event. She made the comment while chairing a critical online conference to
evaluate International Yoga Day 2025 preparations. The session was attended online by VC’s and
senior executives from all state colleges. According to a release from the Raj
Bhavan, the governor stated that International Yoga Day has evolved into a
global movement that promotes a healthy lifestyle, mental well-being, social
peace, and environmental awareness.
An
important online meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Uttar Pradesh
Governor Anandiben Patel regarding the preparations for International Yoga
Day-2025. Vice Chancellors and senior officials of all the state universities
of the state joined the meeting online. The Governor directed that permanent
places dedicated to yoga should be developed in the university campuses.
Highlighting
the importance of the theme of Yoga Day this year, “Yoga for One Earth, One
Health”, the Governor said that this theme not only empowers the spirit of
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, but also calls upon the entire humanity to make yoga a
part of their lifestyle. The Governor directed to make the yoga programs to be
organized in the series of International Yoga Day from 01 June to 21 June,
2025, wonderful, creative and a symbol of collective effort. She said that
cleanliness, music and yoga should be integrated and documented so that a book
can be prepared by compiling it. She directed the newly formed Sports
University to make the children of Anganwadi and primary schools or students of
other universities do yoga by connecting them with sports, so that interest and
participation in yoga increases.
The
Governor made the universities aware of the 10 major activities announced by
the Ministry of AYUSH and directed to ensure active participation in these
schemes. She said that on June 21; ensure group yoga practice in all the
campuses of the university and subordinate colleges, so that maximum number of
students, teachers and employees are benefited. The university should also
organize yoga sessions by joining hands with foreign universities at its own
level, so that international cooperation is promoted. Special yoga sessions
should be organized for the disabled, senior citizens, boys and girls and
students with special needs. Research papers should be prepared to assess the
social and physical effects of yoga.
The
Governor directed that every university should regularly organize yoga related
activities at the level of its subordinate colleges and inter colleges, so that
students can develop the habit of healthy lifestyle from childhood.

Patel said that the acceptance of yoga and Ayurveda is increasing rapidly even
in foreign countries. She expected all the vice-chancellors to join this
campaign with team spirit and make this program an unprecedented success at the
university level. She said that International Yoga Day is not just a
celebration, but a continuous global effort towards a healthy and balanced
life, in which the active role of all the universities of Uttar Pradesh is very
important.
The
Governor said that the use of health centres established in universities should
not be limited to the university only, but it should be expanded to the
villages around it. Every university should make a plan as to how the local
community can take advantage of these services. A concrete action plan should
be made for this. On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary to Governor Dr.
Sudhir Mahadev Bobde, Special Secretary to Governor Shriprakash Gupta, Vice
Chancellors and Registrars of all the universities connected virtually, along
with Raj Bhavan officers/employees were present.
