Israeli Strikes Kill Dozens in Gaza Amid Intensifying Offensive

Gaza City, 28 September (H.S.): More than 35 people, including women and children, have been killed in Israeli airstrikes and gunfire across Gaza since early Saturday morning, with hospital sources reporting heavy casualties in central and southern parts of the territory.

A strike on a house in central Gaza City claimed at least 11 lives, and nine members of a single family were killed in the Nuseirat refugee camp. At least six others died while seeking humanitarian aid amid the escalating violence. The intensified Israeli ground offensive focuses on Gaza City, deemed the last stronghold of Hamas, with the Israeli military having targeted approximately 120 sites since Friday, including buildings linked to militant groups.

Despite mass displacement and a confirmed famine, hundreds of thousands remain trapped in dire conditions with collapsing essential services. The violence follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the UN, where he vowed to finish the job against Hamas, drawing walkouts from multiple delegates.

US President Donald Trump expressed cautious optimism about a forthcoming peace plan aiming for hostage releases, a ceasefire, and a pathway to a Palestinian state—proposals Netanyahu has rejected. The conflict, ignited by Hamas’s October 2023 attacks killing about 1,200 Israelis, has resulted in over 65,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza due to Israeli strikes. The humanitarian crisis deepens as aid access remains perilous while international calls for ceasefire intensify .
