Jammu, June 19: In a significant breakthrough against anti-national activities, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested two over ground workers (OGWs), including a government employee, in Kishtwar district for allegedly supporting terrorist operations in the region.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Naresh Singh, the arrests were made as part of an intensified crackdown on individuals providing logistical and operational assistance to active terrorists operating in the Dachan area of Kishtwar.
The case has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Arms Act.
Detailed Investigation Leads to Key Arrests
Police officials confirmed that, following a detailed and methodical investigation, two accused individuals were taken into custody for their alleged role in facilitating terrorist activities.
The arrested persons have been identified as Tariq Ahmed Ginoo, a government employee working in the Forest Department, and Mohd Iqbal, both residents of Tander village in Dachan, Kishtwar.
Authorities stated that both individuals were allegedly involved in providing support to terrorists operating in the region, thereby contributing to the sustenance of a local terror ecosystem.
Earlier Arrests Link to Wider Network
The SSP further revealed that the recent arrests are part of a broader investigation that had already led to the detention of two other individuals—Muneer Ahmed and Mashkoor Ahmed, residents of Chatroo who were earlier found to be involved in similar activities.
Officials believe these arrests are interconnected and point toward a structured over-ground support network operating in the district.
Ongoing Probe to Identify Wider Links
Security agencies are now focusing on dismantling the entire network and identifying additional individuals who may have played a role in supporting or facilitating terrorist operations.
Investigators are also examining communication links, financial transactions, and local logistical support channels that may have been used to aid terrorist groups active in the region.
Officials indicated that more arrests cannot be ruled out as the probe expands further into suspected networks operating in remote areas of Kishtwar.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Reaffirmed
Reiterating the administration’s stance, SSP Kishtwar Naresh Singh emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir Police maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and its support structures.
He stated that any individual found involved in anti-national activities or assisting terrorist elements will be dealt with strictly under the law.
The police also reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring peace, public safety, and stability in the region through continuous surveillance, intelligence gathering, and coordinated security operations.
Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activity to help maintain security and prevent the resurgence of terror-related threats in the region.
