Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNS) The Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti (KPSS) has called for an impartial and comprehensive investigation into a police complaint involving members of the Kashmiri Pandit community, while cautioning against what it termed a media trial and the circulation of unverified allegations.
In a statement issued, KPSS President Sanjay K. Tickoo said allegations of online targeting, harassment and threats must be examined through a fair legal process, asserting that no individual should be declared guilty on the basis of media narratives, public speculation or social media campaigns.
The Samiti said the security concerns of PM Package employees must not be dismissed or trivialised, stressing that their safety is a legitimate concern requiring an evidence-based response from the police and administration.
However, it questioned whether focusing public attention on one individual was diverting attention from the larger security concerns confronting the Kashmiri Pandit community in the Valley.
“The police cannot discharge their responsibility merely by registering a complaint, nor can the administration demonstrate that the community is secure simply because a particular individual has become the subject of public scrutiny,” the statement said.
KPSS maintained that credible threats, including those allegedly originating from terrorist organisations, support networks or other perpetrators, must be investigated professionally and impartially, with responsibility established through reliable intelligence and admissible evidence.
It also called for an examination of possible institutional shortcomings, including gaps in threat assessment, intelligence coordination and protective arrangements, wherever evidence warrants such scrutiny.
It urged media organisations to distinguish between allegations and established facts, avoid premature conclusions and exercise restraint while reporting matters involving terrorism and public security.
The Samiti also called upon Kashmiri Pandit organisations to rise above factional considerations and individual affiliations, asserting that representative bodies must prioritise collective interests, seek accountability from authorities and facilitate responsible dialogue.
Among its demands, KPSS sought an impartial investigation into the original complaint, examination of relevant digital evidence, accountability for any established security lapses and protection of the safety and legal rights of all individuals concerned.
The statement clarified that its position was neither intended to defend any individual irrespective of evidence nor to dismiss the concerns of any complainant.
“The community deserves more than competing accusations and sensational narratives. It deserves a credible assessment of the threats it faces, effective protection from those threats, transparency in the exercise of institutional responsibilities and justice based on evidence,” the statement said.
KPSS reiterated that the safety and future of the Kashmiri Pandit community could not be secured by identifying a convenient person to blame, but by addressing genuine threats, correcting institutional shortcomings and ensuring accountability.
The statement was issued by KPSS President Sanjay K. Tickoo. (KNS)
