Delhi, 12 October (H.S.): Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, spearheaded the 44th edition of the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ (SOC) initiative in the capital on Sunday, galvanizing doctors and health professionals to join the nationwide movement for a fitter India.The event, held at over 10,000 locations across the country, aimed to underscore the critical importance of physical activity and preventive health in combating lifestyle diseases like obesity .

World Para Athletics Championship medalists Sailesh Kumar, Praveen Kumar, and Sonam Rana also participated, lending their star power to inspire citizens .Hailing the medical community’s unparalleled contribution, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Mandaviya urged them to become guides in India’s fitness journey.

When a doctor says something related to health, people follow it, he stated, emphasizing their unique position to promote the benefits of cycling and advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to fight obesity.The minister highlighted that the initiative has become a significant national fitness movement, crucial for realizing the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047.

A healthy body and a healthy mind are the foundation of a strong nation, Dr. Mandaviya remarked, while also encouraging the use of Swadeshi (indigenous) products for sports activities.The event in New Delhi, organized in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Yogasana Bharat, and other partners, was not limited to cycling. It featured a vibrant mix of activities, including Zumba, rope skipping, and Yogasana, catering to all age groups.

Echoing the minister’s sentiments, para-athlete Praveen Kumar noted that exercise is key to maintaining focus, while Sailesh Kumar commended the government’s endeavor, stating, Every person should dedicate at least one hour every day to fitness—for both physical and mental wellness.

The ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative has engaged over 1.25 million individuals across more than 100,000 locations since its inception, promoting community-based fitness every Sunday .
