Operation Sheruwali Enters 29th Day as Security Forces Intensify Rajouri Forest Search

RAJOURI, June 20: Security forces continued their intensive counter-terrorism efforts in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Saturday as Operation Sheruwali entered its 29th consecutive day in the dense forested region of Gambhir Mughlan.

The prolonged operation remains focused on tracking and eliminating suspected infiltrators believed to be hiding in the remote and mountainous terrain of the Dorimal-Gambhir Mughlan belt. Multiple security agencies are participating in the mission, which has become one of the longest ongoing anti-terror operations in the region this year.

Officials said troops have further strengthened the search grid across strategically important areas, conducting extensive combing operations in forests, high-altitude ridges and difficult mountain passages. The challenging landscape, marked by thick vegetation, deep ravines and steep slopes, has made the operation particularly demanding for personnel deployed on the ground.

Security teams are maintaining a high level of vigilance and have expanded surveillance measures to prevent any movement by suspected militants. Advanced monitoring techniques, including area domination patrols and observation posts, are being used to keep a close watch on vulnerable locations within the operational zone.

Sources indicated that forces are systematically covering every possible route that could be used for movement through the forest region. Search parties are working in coordination to ensure that no area remains unchecked during the ongoing mission.

Launched in late May, Operation Sheruwali was initiated following intelligence inputs regarding the presence of armed infiltrators in the rugged mountainous stretches of Rajouri district. Since then, security forces have maintained sustained pressure through continuous search and cordon measures aimed at locating the suspects.

The operation reflects the commitment of security agencies to counter terrorist activity and maintain stability in the border district, which has witnessed increased security focus due to its strategic location and difficult terrain.

Officials emphasized that despite harsh weather conditions and geographical challenges, troops remain fully prepared to continue the operation for as long as required. Additional resources and logistical support have been deployed to assist personnel engaged in the mission.

Residents in nearby areas have been advised to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies whenever required. Authorities have also reiterated that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of local communities during the operation.

As Operation Sheruwali enters its fourth week, security forces remain determined to achieve the objectives of the mission while maintaining a strong presence across the forested stretches of Rajouri. The ongoing effort highlights the sustained focus on preventing infiltration attempts and strengthening the overall security environment in the region.
