Washington, October 9(HS): US President Donald Trump has expressed cautious optimism about his chances of winning the Nobel Peace Prize, even as the White House hailed him as “The Peace President” following his announcement of a historic ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump said he had “no idea” whether the Norwegian Nobel Committee would consider him for the coveted honour, though several countries have nominated him for his role in mediating peace across multiple global conflicts. “Perhaps they’ll find a reason not to give it to me,” he remarked wryly.

Trump claimed his administration has successfully “settled seven wars” and is “close to settling an eighth,” citing his latest diplomatic efforts between Israel and Hamas and ongoing negotiations over the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “I don’t think anybody in history has settled that many,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the White House shared an image of Trump captioned ‘The Peace President’, highlighting his recent achievements in global diplomacy. The announcement followed Trump’s revelation that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of his Gaza Peace Plan, which includes a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

Several nations, including Pakistan, have reportedly nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, praising his “decisive diplomatic leadership” during past military stand-offs such as the India-Pakistan border crisis.

India, however, rejected US mediation claims, insisting the ceasefire then was brokered directly between both militaries.Despite a history of multiple nominations, Trump remains uncertain about the outcome. “Marco [Secretary of State Rubio] would tell you we’ve settled seven conflicts,” he said, adding that his record “probably surpasses” those of other past leaders, including Barack Obama, who won the award early in his presidency.

The Nobel Peace Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious honors, is expected to be announced on Friday. Trump’s supporters say his efforts to end the Gaza war have strengthened his legacy as a global peace broker, while critics accuse him of political opportunism.
