London, September 9(HS):
Prince Harry returned to the UK on Monday, marking his first visit in five months with a series of engagements that began with the WellChild charity awards in London. The event honors children living with complex medical conditions, as well as the families and carers who support them.
At the awards ceremony, held on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, Harry engaged warmly with the young attendees, even playfully joining a balloon swordfight. In a keynote speech, he lauded the children’s courage, resilience, and the unwavering love from their caregivers.
“The world has thrown a fair few challenges our way,” Prince Harry said, acknowledging the difficulties faced by these families while affirming the importance of the WellChild awards as a continuing source of inspiration over the past two decades.
The Duke of Sussex also privately visited Windsor Castle earlier Monday to lay a wreath at the chapel where his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, is buried.
Among the honorees was six-year-old Esmée McGlinchey, who has undergone 35 surgeries and faces daily health challenges. Harry’s visit comes amid speculation about whether he will meet his father, King Charles III, during this trip. His wife Meghan and their children remain in California due to security concerns.
On Tuesday, Harry is scheduled to announce a significant donation to a Children in Need project in Nottingham, followed by a visit to the Centre for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College London on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Princess Catherine paid tribute to the Queen’s legacy by visiting a Women’s Institute event, recalling her longstanding membership and passion for horse racing. William emphasized the value of in-person connections over social media, remarking on the importance of traditional social bonds.
This visit highlights Prince Harry’s ongoing commitment to charitable causes and the royal family’s continuing remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy.
