Srinagar- Srinagar recorded the hottest day of the season on Monday as the maximum temperature soared to 35.3 degrees Celsius, with the Kashmir Valley witnessing intense heatwave-like conditions for the third consecutive day, officials said.

An official of the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, said hot and dry weather is expected to persist across Jammu and Kashmir till June 30, with heatwave-like conditions continuing over most parts of the Union Territory.

He said light rain or brief thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds may occur at scattered places during late-night and early morning hours, while pre-monsoon showers are also likely over the plains of the Jammu region.

Fresh spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected across Jammu and Kashmir between July 1 and July 5, bringing relief from the prevailing heat, the official said.

Heavy rainfall, intense showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely at a few places, particularly on July 2 and 3, he added.

According to the forecast, weather from July 6 to July 8 is likely to remain hot and humid, with intermittent rain or thundershowers at scattered places.

The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain cautious, warning that heavy rainfall on July 2 and 3 could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas of the Jammu division.

Residents have been advised to stay away from nallas, streams and landslide-prone areas, while temporary waterlogging is also expected in low-lying areas due to intense rainfall.
