Thunderstorm, lightning strike claims lives in UP

Etah/Firozabad,

02 May (HS): On a rainy Friday, lightning hit wide sections of the state,

killing at least three people and injuring numerous more. Two workers were

killed in Firozabad while working on a road project under the Mahatma Gandhi

National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). A family attempting to cover a haystack with

a tarpaulin sheet to protect it from rain was also impacted adversely. Diksha, 17, died on the spot, and her younger

sister Sapna sustained major burn injuries as a result of a lightning strike

during heavy rain and thunder in Etah district’s Bhagwantpur hamlet. Their father and brother were also injured.

While working, the two sisters were struck by lightning. Diksha died instantaneously, and Sapna’s

condition is still severe, according to Aman, a family member.

Villagers

and family members have asked the aurthorities for financial aid under disaster

relief measures. Similar incidents were witnessed in the Firozabad district. Satyendra,

35, and Vishnu, 25, died instantly when lightning struck the Shikohabad-Nanemau

route. According to authorities,

Devendra, 30, the third person working with them, was hurt and sent to the

hospital. Following the district magistrate’s orders, a team led by the

tehsildar has begun steps to assure compensation for the victims’ relatives

from the disaster relief fund. Both instances are subject to post-mortem

examinations.
