Budgam, Dec 31 (KINS): Police in Budgam achieved significant success in 2025 through an intensive and sustained crackdown on drug trafficking across the district, reaffirming their commitment towards making Budgam drug-free.

Adopting a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, Budgam Police attached properties worth ₹3.69 crore under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The attached assets include eight residential houses, two shopping complexes, six kanals and one marla of land, and three vehicles, all identified as proceeds of illicit drug trade.

During the year, police arrested 83 drug peddlers, detained 15 individuals under the PIT NDPS Act, and registered 58 FIRs under the NDPS Act. Contraband substances worth approximately ₹2.57 crore—including charas, ganja, cannabis, poppy straw, and heroin—were seized. Police also secured convictions against three accused persons in NDPS cases, sending a strong message against drug trafficking and reinforcing the resolve of J&K Police.

In addition, special drives conducted across the district led to the destruction of 46 kanals of illicit poppy and bhang cultivation.

As per legal procedures, Budgam Police carried out a mass disposal drive of seized narcotics under the supervision of the District Level Drug Disposal Committee. A total of 210 kilograms and 781 grams of narcotic substances seized in 34 NDPS FIRs, with an estimated market value of ₹1 crore, were destroyed during 2025.

The disposal was conducted strictly in compliance with Section 52-A of the NDPS Act at the Kashmir Healthcare System Bio-Medical Waste Unit, IGC Lasipora, Pulwama, ensuring adherence to all legal and environmental norms.(KINS)
