Washington, October 9 (HS): U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that America’s tariff strategy is playing a pivotal role in securing peace agreements, including efforts to bring Hamas and Israel to the negotiating table over Gaza.
Speaking in a televised interview, Trump asserted that tariffs not only strengthen the United States’ leverage but also create “a brilliant path to peace” capable of saving millions of lives.Trump highlighted that his trade measures had earlier this year contributed to India and Pakistan agreeing to a ceasefire, describing tariffs as an essential component of his approach to conflict resolution.
“Tariffs have brought peace to the world,” he said, emphasising that Washington will not negotiate with entities engaged in active conflict. On the Middle East, Trump revealed that several regional nations have pledged to assist in rebuilding Gaza, with the United States committed to ensuring the reconstruction leads to lasting stability.
“We will help them make it successful and keep it peaceful,” he stated.Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres affirmed the United Nations’ support for the full implementation of the Gaza ceasefire and hostage agreements. He pledged to step up “consistent and principled” humanitarian aid deliveries to the region, stressing the urgency of sustained relief for civilians.
