New Delhi, September 9 (HS): The Indian women’s hockey team is set to enter the Super Four stage of the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 in Hangzhou with the aim of maintaining its unbeaten run and securing a place in the tournament’s final. India will face strong contenders in hosts China, defending champions Japan, and Korea in the decisive round.
India topped Pool B with seven points after a commanding performance in the group stage. The team opened its campaign with an emphatic 11–0 win over Thailand, followed by a thrilling 2–2 draw against Japan, and a resounding 12–0 victory against Singapore to storm into the Super Four.
Forwards Navneet Kaur and Mumtaz Khan were the standout performers in the pool stage, scoring five goals each. Both will be crucial as India look to continue their aggressive style of play in the knock-out round. In the Super Four stage, all four teams—India, China, Japan, and Korea—will play each other once, with the top two advancing to the final and the others competing for third place.
India begin their Super Four campaign against Korea on September 10, followed by a clash with China on September 11, and a high-voltage encounter with Japan on September 13. Historical records favor India in recent meetings with Korea, having won three of their last five encounters, while Korea managed one win and one match ended in a draw.
Speaking ahead of the crucial stage, Indian women’s team coach Harendra Singh said: “We are satisfied with the team’s start. The players have shown intent, discipline, and the ability to convert opportunities. But the Super Four represents an entirely different challenge. Our focus will be on maintaining a solid defense and finishing chances effectively. Consistency and composure will be key, and the players understand the responsibility as well as the pride of wearing the Indian jersey. With our process-driven approach, I am confident we can achieve our target.”
