Sitharaman Assesses GST Reform Impact During On-the-Ground Visit to Delhi Shops

Delhi, 22 September (H.S.): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday conducted an on-the-ground assessment of the implementation of next-generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms by visiting several areas in the national capital. As part of this review, she visited a stationery and grocery store in Laxmi Nagar to evaluate whether the benefits of reforms under the ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ were reaching the general public.

Coinciding with the first day of Navratri, the Finance Minister’s tour included stops at Subhash Chowk and Laxmi Nagar to review the rollout of the new GST measures. During her visit, she engaged directly with shopkeepers and customers, greeting them and initiating conversations to gather firsthand feedback on the tax reforms from local traders and consumers.

The Finance Minister also took the opportunity to encourage everyone to promote and purchase ‘Swadeshi’ (Made in India) products. In a response to reporters, Sitharaman stated, The feedback has been very positive. She was accompanied by Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways and Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, and Laxmi Nagar MLA Abhay Verma during the visit.
