
New Delhi, April 23 (HS): The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has extended the investigation period by another 11 days for two accused in the MCOCA case linked to Aam Aadmi Party leader Naresh Balyan. The 90-day deadline necessary for the investigation against these accused was set to expire today. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja ordered that all the accused in this case be kept in judicial custody until May 5.
The accused for whom the investigation period has been extended by 11 days include Sahil alias Poli and Vijay Gehlot alias Kalu. The Delhi Police had requested a 30-day extension of the investigation period against these two accused. The police stated that both accused need to confront some other accused in this case. They also need to obtain some financial and property documents.
In addition to Naresh Balyan, the accused whose judicial custody has been extended include Ritik Peter, Sachin Chikara, Rohit alias Anna, Sahil alias Poli, Jai alias Kalu, and Jyoti Prakash alias Baba. All the accused appeared via video conferencing in court. On March 1, the court had extended the investigation period against Naresh Balyan for 60 days. The investigation period for Naresh Balyan was set to expire on March 3. The Delhi Police had sought a 90-day extension of the investigation period. The court had taken cognizance of the charge sheet filed against accused Ritik Peter on February 24.
On January 4, the Delhi Police filed the first charge sheet related to the MCOCA case. A nearly 300-page charge sheet was filed against Ritik Peter under Section 3 of MCOCA. After Naresh Balyan was granted bail in the recovery case on December 4, 2024, he was arrested in the MCOCA case. The Delhi Police arrested Naresh Balyan on the night of November 30, 2024. Before this, the BJP had released an audio clip of Naresh Balyan in which he was conversing with gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu.
According to the Delhi Police, the conversation between Naresh Balyan and the gangster is from 2023, and an FIR was registered concerning it in 2023. Kapil Sangwan is a notorious gangster who is currently residing in the UK. He has been living in the UK for the past five years. Kapil Sangwan and Naresh Balyan both hail from Najafgarh in Delhi. Kapil Sangwan is considered the mastermind behind the murder of Nafe Singh in Haryana. He is also regarded as the mastermind in the murders of wrestler Ballu Pehalwan and BJP leader Surendra Matiyala.
