Manchester, April 23 (H.S.): In an exciting match played late on Tuesday night in the English Premier League, Manchester City reinforced its hopes in the Champions League race by defeating Aston Villa 2-1 thanks to a goal scored by Matheus Nunes in injury time.
The match was heading for a draw when Marcus Rashford’s penalty goal equalized Bernardo Silva’s initial goal from the first half. However, in the 94th minute, Nunes scored a goal with a brilliant cross from Jeremy Doku, securing the victory for City.
With this win, Manchester City jumped two places to secure the third position with 61 points. However, the three teams behind them have played one match less. Meanwhile, Aston Villa remains in seventh place with 57 points, suffering its 15th consecutive defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
In the 7th minute of the match, Umar Marmoush deceived Villa’s right-back Matty Cash and passed the ball to Bernardo Silva, who pierced through goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s hands to net the ball.
Villa’s comeback occurred in the 18th minute when, after a VAR review, City defender Ruben Dias was found guilty of colliding with Jacob Ramsey from behind. Marcus Rashford easily converted the resulting penalty, leveling the score at 1-1.
